Should still be required reading. Those who got it banned from libraries must have the logic & reasoning capacity of a gnat.

fergiethefrog,
They probably foresaw and wish to hide the future.
Ignorance is strength!

fergiethefrog, Orwell's "Animal Farm" should also be required high school reading.

Tanya
fergiethefrog, I totally agree with you on that 👍 👏 👌 😉 🙌.

Loved that book, Animal Farm is also great reading. Most people who haven't read 1984 don't realise that the term Big Brother comes from that novel.

I recently re-read it. It's disturbingly relevant.

Most readers don't know that the ideas behind 1984 came from Orwell's wife. Read 'Wifedom' about Eileen and her influence on his writing. Of course he erased her.

Very accurate prediction of a dystopian future - a memorable read

There was a 1970 book and movie titled Colossas, the Forbin Project, where a Supercomputer was built by Dr. Forbin(Eric Braeden/Victor Newman starring) where all military control is turned over to the computer.
It quickly overtakes every aspect of human life especialty after it links with Russia's duplicate, Guardian. Humans involved in the project are then put under complete surveilance. Dr. Forbin asked for privacy in the bedroom with his mistress another scientist and they plot to dismantle Colossas.
When humans try to dismantle the computers control, they retaliate by nuking two cities, one in Russia, one in USA, demanding the engineers involved be executed immediately.
Then, they use that destruction to demand worldwide dominance to stop all wars.
They decide what is good, or bad for humans.
Humans pretty much become zombies. Hmmm. like now perhaps with Face in Phone Syndrome?
Will Smith has been trying to get a remake going since 2007.
