What type of wood native to Hawaii is commonly used in making ukuleles?

We have a koa uke made by Kamaka. Given to us by a friend. Koa is so beautiful!

I have a Koa wood chest about a 3 foot cube that was used in one of the old Waikiki hotels that had been in storage. I bought it for $35 in 1971. Wonder what it's worth now?
