What is Dressage?

Only come across this during the Olympic Games.

Leapfoot, Dressage is a required competition during a three day event. The same horse and rider combination start with dressage, followed by a cross country endurance race and finish with show jumping in the arena.

CyanJaguar62, the Lipizzaner stallions of Austria were trained for war, and still perform the battlefield moves in elaborate shows. Much of their training and performance is closely related to modern dressage. It's amazing to see horse and rider working as one unit, glad it is an Olympic sport!

I thought dressage also had some relationship with how horses were trained in medieval times when warhorses were prized and fought in tandem with their knightly riders. I'll have to look that up

That's something I would watch.
