I think a lot of people can suffer temporary OCD when under periods of intense stress, which resolves when the stress passes. In such a case, could it be like a "safety" seeking mechanism of the mind?

I agree that many of us have OCD traits in different degrees. For me I think it's a way to have control in my life.

I believe that I have OCD, but have never been diagnosed. I check doors, the stove and electrical items more than once before bedtime.

I definitely have OCD. I often have irrational fears, and I'm obsessed with logic instead of emotions.

OCD is not a mental health disorder. We are closer to perfectionists than anything else. There’s nothing wrong with us the rest of the world are just lazy slobs. Going back to check things is normal, not going back to check things is pure laziness. Two instances where a good solid OCD person would have prevented tragedy. Number one: if the teacher that went out the door that was supposed to be locked all the time had gone back and verified that the door actually locked after she just let it swing shut, things might have turned down very differently there in Uvalde. Number two, the seatbelt checkers at the drop zone ride in Florida instead of just running around touching everyone’s seatbelts, would have given it a good shake to confirm the seatbelts were actually fastened, that young man would not have dropped to his death. We are normal, we check ourselves because we accept that we may have made a mistake. The rest of you people are not normal!!! if I still filled out resumes, I would put OCD on it as a positive.

As I started senior status, I noticed I had to have things just so. All of my colored pencils must be sorted, my clothes in closet are arranged by color, I prefer certain utensils over others. I think of it as OCD but I haven't been diagnosed.

Louie, I agree but it doesn't prevent us from living normal lives. I count stairs every time I go up or down them. I know it's a Scottish name, a tribe within the McIntosh clan as I understand it.

Dallas I think we all have a bit of OCD in us!! My maiden name or family name is Dallas. It comes from the wee town of Dallas in Morayshire, Scotland. There’s a Dallas Castle too although it’s a bit of a ruin now.
