As I understood Boxing Day in the English armed services/upper class households was a day in which officers/employers switched rolls with enlisted/servants for the day. Officers/employers would do the work normally done by enlisted/servants and they in turn would get a rest from their labors. Don't know if this still occurs but it seems a great tradition.
