Despite their size, which of these animals only lives a few years?
Correct answer: Giant squid
Nutshell
Something interesting that I recently learned, the colossal squid is larger than the giant squid. They are over 46 feet long (46 meters), something like 1600 lbs (720-ish kg) & glow in the dark... but have longer torsos with shorter tentacles.
So few have been found and they live so deep, that's about all they know about them. It's kind of crazy how we talk about sending people to Mars, when we haven't even investigated all of our own planet yet... but perhaps it's better that we leave them alone, I can't imagine anything good coming of humans invading their home.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was my first exposure to a squid, giant at that, and I dismissed it as another Disney fantasy. Nope. They exist.
MoodyChef92025
its amazing how fast they must grow .

Nutshell, 46 feet isn't 46 metres
Anastasia
WaldoLydeker, Disney did not create the story of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It was written by Jules Verne in the 1800s.

Part of the reason for the short life span is that the mother starves until her babies are hatched. This not only takes its tole on her life but denies the species from passing on learned survival techniques. Thus the same lessons are repeated instead of advanced and evolved through time.

Well sharks don't live so long either cos they are hunted so the Chinese can have their shark fin soups.

Nutshell,
yeah it's crazy that they can't create a vehicle to go to the bottom of the ocean floor and do some exploring here on earth there's no telling what would be discovered at the bottom of the oceans or even half way down since everything that we've discovered is not even that deep but one thing about exploring in a extremely dark places creatures that do exist in darkness they have a big advantage over us being that they know that we're approaching them even though we're unable to see them and lighting up the darkness will probably scare away all the creatures that normally are exploring for either food or mating partners

Given how much they pollute the planet, I’m sure China and India will destroy the habitat for squids soon enough.
