Queen Victoria chose Ottawa as the site for the Capital because it would be more difficult for an invading army ( read USA 😉) to capture versus Toronto or Montreal.

I live 2 hrs from Toronto and other than to take my dog to an orthopedic surgeon and change trains on our way somewhere else, I have not voluntarily gone there in over 20 years.
