I was 14 and had no problem getting into the theater located in the suburbs of nyc. I guess an x rating didn’t mean very much.

Have this movie on dvd—watched it last night. Both Hoffman and Voight gave outstanding performances. Really no reason for rating it X. It should be rated C for compassion.
