The constant sound and hearing loss drives me buggy! I empathize with anyone suffering like this. Wish there was something we could do to stop the noise.

I have had a high pitched ringing since ringing in my ears since 1991 (about 10kHz). In addition to the ringing, recently, I hear a roaring sound. Both become louder when my blood pressure goes up. My military service continues to take things from me.

Mine is loudest whenever it’s quite around me. I have to sleep with the tv on to mask it but this has problems with my husband trying to sleep. Therefore we have separate bedrooms. Tried everything including ENT and was told I’d have to live with it or take tranquilizers. Can’t decide which is worse.

What isn't mentioned in the facts above is that Tinnitus is also connected to problems caused by Temporal Mandibular Joint Dysfunction.

I can't remember not having it. I just try to ignore it as best I can. I used to play in a band, I used to listen to loud music, I've had a few heart problems, I've had some anxiety problems, I've had some serious head injuries. What causes it? Probably in my case it was the loud music. I don't know...

Cherokeeprincess3, Sometimes I can hear sounds we aren't supposed to be able to hear! there was a time when I could hear police and ambulance dispatches in my head at night while I was trying to sleep! The Sheriff's office was only 6 blocks away! I would wake up my wife and ask her what she said, and she would tell me I was crazy!

HellaciousUndead5433, I've had it most of my life, got it when some older kids thought it was funny to clap their hands over both ears to watch me fall out in pain, blew up my eardrums and had to have surgery to repair them! I've never known absolute silence since, but I no longer even notice it most times anymore! It's loudest at night when there isn't any other noises!

If you have tinnitus and haven't been to the doctor about it may I suggest you do. After reading about it here I went to see my doctor and it can indeed, as it says here, be a sign of an underlying health issue x

This isn’t quite accurate. The perception of a sound when there isn’t a sensory stimulus for that sound is better understood as an auditory hallucination. Tinnitus is a kind of simple auditory hallucination (of ringing or buzzing) as a result of damage to the inner ear or auditory nerve.

The sound usually goes away for me if I lie down or press on the nerve near my neck. It gives temporary relief for sure. Otherwise it is maddening :(
