i used to live in angels camp, in calaveras county, and have been to his cabin where he lived and wrote his novel about the jumping frog of calaveras county. angels camp is where the frog jumps are held every year at the calaveras county fair, i worked there for years.

I had many good laughs reading his book Innocents Abroad. It is set in an earlier, more socially restricted era, so you have to overlook some predjudicial language, but still a classic funny read.

Although Clemens is known for his wonderful books, he wrote many other works. Clemens had a great wit and sarcasm. He wrote many critiques of other authors, politicians, plays. To this day, his critiques are worthy of reading, due to Clemens incredible use of his wit and sarcasm.

I love his books and his character. He never had any great grandchildren. His only granddaughter passed at 55. He did have nieces and nephews. His books should be shown on TV. They are so educational. He was also devoted to his wife until her death.
