My Uncle Carl was a Sargent in Patton's Tank Battalion in 1943. He was captured by a German Battalion and spent the remaining years in a military prison camp. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about what he went through. He had a stroke in his later years and would tell us about all he endured in the prison camp at the hands of the SS Gestapo, and what General Patton did for him before his unfortunate capture.

So sad a Great General had to die in a simple car accident after the war.

RedFork2012, The term 'Shell Shock' was first used for soldiers during The Great War (WWI).
They called it "Battle Fatigue" during WWII. And it was definitely recognized as a 'psychiatric dusturbance' during that war.
The terminology has changed, but the effects are the same.

Fun Fact: There is a statue of General Patton in the courtyard of the Episcopal he attended when he was young in the city of his birth, San Gabriel, California.

GaetanoGio30, God bless the soul of your Uncle Carl. The way I see it, we need to look at all the Service Men and Women as a whole entity. Without each of every one of them, the Evil Nazis might still be in power.

WaldoLydeker, this statement “our blood and his guts” wasn’t an invention of the writers of the movie “Patton” - my father was a medic in the 12th Armored Division, which was nicknamed the ‘Mystery Division” by Patton while under his corps command during the crossing of the Rhine. My father told me long before the movie came out that the saying was common among soldiers serving under Patton during World War 2.
