Which U.S. general was nicknamed "Unconditional Surrender"?
Correct answer: Ulysses S. Grant

Birdiemon, YOU SO RIGHT! There are no African Americans, no Mexican Americans, etc. We are just AMERICANS. Pure and simple. Period. To me, an African American is a person who immigrated to America and, by following the required steps, EVENTUALLY became a CITIZEN. Blacks who were born in the United States are Americans. The same goes for anyone born here. All this political correctness is getting tiresome. God Bless America.

Birdiemom
Are we ever gonna quit fighting about COLOR and just be AMERICAN?

1hollyaz39, I agree I am an American who happens to be black

Shmily
Birdiemom, Amen! The only race is the human race. Imagine how different our world would be if we saw no color of skin and only content of heart.

JDoe555
Shmily, Or how boring and uninspiring if we were all the same? Imagine eating the same food, listening to the same music, looking at the same artwork, etc. I, for one, am glad for the diversity and just wished we all loved and cared for one another!!!

jerryp80, Those who write history are well known to be the "winners." In war, there are NO winners...just death, destruction, and deeper pockets for the elite. This is the truth we should be teaching our children instead of the lies spewed by the very same people who continue to amass great wealth at the expense of innocent people across the globe.

MALICE
history, gotta love it.

1hollyaz39,
how interesting that slavery is considered immigration. thanks... I really needed that laugh

ASH 77
Barbara, pretty sure war is sometimes necessary and those who win their freedom are the victors. Most wars are not this way though. We should tell our children to make sure what they are fighting for is pure and not doe greed.

His real name at birth was Hiram Ulysses Grant but the politician who nominated him for West Point Thomas Hamer mistook his name on the recommendation and listed it as “U.S. Grant” so he went by that name for the rest of his life. The S was just an initial and didn’t stand for any middle name.

1hollyaz39, My ancestors are from Ireland, but I've never thought of myself as Irish American. I'm an American, and proud of it - of Irish decent. God Bless America!

Player #38225175, certainly. our heritage, meaning everything that has ever happened, has led us to this day and the people participating in it. we should be thankful for all the good and bad things that have ever happened, because it makes us what we are today.

wesley
Birdiemom, not as long as there is political fodder to be reaped.

I’m not sure how to edit my reply, but when I said REAL AMERICANS, i had included quotation marks. So I amend this with
So called... real Americans.

Player #1742948
1hollyaz39,
I agree. This includes the whites who immigrated here as well but nobody seems to remember that whites are just Europeans who crossed the same ocean as black people (and most not even by choice, as we know), and those from the Middle East as well as every other race and nationality. Whether by choice or by force we or our ancestors were all immigrants at some point as the only original Americans were the Native American Indian tribes. Why it’s so hard for most white people to remember this fact is confusing to me. For the majority of those races the “real Americans” (white) keep saying to “go back to where you came from!”, I say they should go back as well.

jerryp80,
I agree with nearly everything you said here except one... I don’t believe to this day we have complete equality among Americans. Still, we have come a very long way to achieving this goal.

1hollyaz39, absolutely correct and not political correct.
