Which country has a law that requires companies to measure the waist circumference of employees?
Correct answer: Japan

bill Wright
I suppose Sumu Wrestlers are exempt then .!

Yana
That's a bit intrusive, isn't it ?

kronik
what a waist...( pun...)

Osiris
hahahaha almost everyone would be fired in USA 🤣

Jean
It’s also a convenient way to fire people for the company’s own purposes…..

Bigred-dot
wow, that's horrible, I would not work there. my waist is about 55inches.

Castra
Be wise,
Discrimination

dadiyo
I wonder if all the upset comments are from USA! 🤣🤣🤣 FOR THOSE WHO CANT READ, NO EMPLOYEES ARE FIRED.

Be wise
It seems like discremenation.

Mihaela
And how not being employed, just staying at home doing nothing promotes an even healthier lifestyle? Authorities shouldn't even have a saying in this. People have the right to own their body and eat what they want and as much as they like and feel is ok for them.

Myffa
RocketBunny, Body types? Is there some theory that being obese is a natural body shape that some people have no choice about, and therefore cannot change, even if they tried? Like their height or the shape of their ears? That is going a long way beyond saying they should be allowed to eat as much of whatever they want?

Myffa
Tutoring, And is it discrimination to insist people be qualified for their jobs? If that means remaining healthy? Or must employers keep those who make no effort?

Myffa
Mihaela, Not if there is a free , taxpayer funded, health service (eg UK). Why should the public pay for people who wont help themselves. I wish the UK had something similar. The USA is different - you pay your own way.

meansheep
Yana, Japanese laws seem very intrusive to Americans. The police there are known to intimidate people into warrantless searches, knowing the culture will likely go along with it rather than refuse. They are very strict.

Frog
angelstar, They dont get fired.

Tutoring
Be wise, No seems like... IT IS DISCRIMINATION. NO IFS ANDS OR BUTS ABOUT IT.

DMommaGamer
I'm in USA. It's not govt-mandated, but my company does the same waist check as part of its benefits program. You can opt out of the company benefits, of course.

angelstar
Well, I'd be fired.

lindasig
bill Wright, hahhahahahaa, I just had the same thought 🤣

Wow! Some people have genetic issues. This is a bit over the top, but…I guess it helps people to stay fit. I suppose it’s similar to military members weight program.

ah
almost everyone would be fired in UK 🤣 very good idea 👌

DrgnLdy ✌🏻
little b,
Me either and have NO interest in going there.

Flac
So no rewards if a person is less than the max allowed???

RocketBunny
Once again, a systematic way to keep certain body types OUT and discriminate against others. Humans are tiresome.

mimimimi
bill Wright, They aren't employees, for the love of God.

Denveroni The Nice V
Castra, ha, ha, ha! I love irony!

snake
what about sumo wrestlers? are they exempt? seems an ignorant law to me.

Milo
StaticNomad, it's plain and simple, companies have to care (mandatory) about employee's health.

StaticNomad
I have SO many questions about this standard of practice. Do they take into account preexisting medical conditions that can cause metabolic issues? What do they do for folks on work visas who would have a larger bone structure and, therefore, never be able to fit within their limitations without causing serious malnutrition? Are there just a ton of overweight and unemployed people in Japan?

Tay
Talk about pressure and fat-shaming, but at least we'd all be guilted into a healthier weight....wouldn't want to stand out now, would we...?🫢

hello humans
kronik, love that joke🤣

lemmy
it's both a good idea and a lawsuit waiting to happen. only in Japan could this make sense

Player #123997389
Does that include Sumo wrestlers?

ww2
never knew that it's like saying check your weight of go get fired

john
Yana, Yes

Spooki
Bigred-dot, so who’s going to keep me as my waist gets to big for employment?

Andi
Be wise, There's a reason for that. It Is!!
