I remember the movie; it was a real tear-jerker, as you can imagine. The scene when their mother answers a knock on the door to find 2 servicemen and asks ," Which one?" . After the incident a rule was made to never let family members serve together.

3 of my uncles served in WWII. Two were in the Normandy Landing together-- Ben, a medic and John a combat soldier. As soon as they hit the beach, John was shot by a machine gun. Ben saw him fall and stopped the bleeding. He was able to return him to the ship and saved his life --then returned to the battle.

wesley, The Sullivan's became an example of dedication and sacrifice to all the militaries, but especially the navy! I was 17 when I joined the Navy during Vietnam! I saw the first "The Sullivan's" and that's how I learned the story! we lined up at attention to port side as we passed by, to honor them!

Chezikeets, you are absolutely correct 💯. My oldest 3 brothers were all in during Vietnam. We worried about them serving in the same area. However, one was in Vietnam, one in Panama one in Okinawa. Scary back then

Chezikeets, Siblings can't serve together was not the true reason...cuz siblings can still serve together in the military. lt' s cuzof this incident with the Sullivan's and the nationwide attention that it received was the real reason why the military changed their regulations so that one son would always be left in families in order to carry on the families bloodline.

Player #10628065, My father served in the navy during WWII. He was hit in the head and had a plate in his head. Idk what ship he was on though. I do know he was around Italy and Sicily. His name was Lawrence Earl Whipple. As a red of his head injury, He wasn’t supposed to live much more than 5 years afterwards. Miraculously he lived to be 73, dying just days before his 74th birthday. If he wouldn’t have lived, I would not be here, as he was 45 when I was born!

if anyone watches the TV show This Is Us, a few years ago they had a story where both brothers were in Vietnam. I think that Jack was a sergeant and he asked to go to the unit where his brother was stationed, because his brother was having drug problems. Not sure how accurate this is, but they allowed him to do it by special request.

my dad and his two brothers were all enlisted in the army at the same time during World War 2. He was the youngest and enlisted as soon as he got out of high school. They were all stationed in different areas but one night, in a foggy London my dad and his oldest brother when into each other on the street. Billy? Johnny?
