EsenMau, Reply: The House of the Rising was partially inspired by the O.T. book of Proverbs Chapter 7 where the young man is urged to follow the wise woman and not the crafty woman who has ruined many.True.

For several centuries, this song has been interpreted as warning against gambling, prostitution and/or imprisonment. (Check YouTube.) Personally, I got my first guitar my 12th Xmas in '64 because of Eric Burden's brilliant rendition. Decades later he revised the lyrics to reflect his personal journey and made this compelling song better still!

Melode
I don't know why I like this song so much. it seems that the guy in the song is warning a younger person not to do what he did. too bad some don't listen to good advice.

I saw the Animals live in the early 60s at Cooks Ferry Inn, North London. The place was mobbed. No seats, you were expected to dance in front of them playing. No chance - standing room only. Never forget it, the place was mental.
