Which language has the most native speakers within the European Union?

Player #1489294, As far as I know, students learn their native tongue, English is required, and often another language, putting them far ahead of the US. Although we require a second language course, most never become proficient at it, which is a shame. America is too insular.

Since I do not speak German fluently at all (just very few words) I found that most Europeans know enough English to communicate with me. We should know as much of a foreign language to be able to speak to the Europeans also. Shame on us.
