Robert, he was vocal anti slavery, but also practical in not pushing for its immediate banning before or during early years of the Civil War. It is true that his #1 goal was preserving the Union, but misleading to say he that didn't want to end slavery because he was on record as antislavery from 1854 onwards.

He wasn't a vocal opponent to slavery. Do they research their comments? I think he was a great person, but The Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves on most Southern climes. Specifically not in the border states.

AntecedentSack, I am from Decatur! There is a lot of Lincoln associations in my town, too. right outside Decatur is Lincoln Trails Park. This is where he lived for a short time in a cabin overlooking the Sangamon River. He left here after the " Winter of the big snow". Lincoln was also nominated to run for president in our town center.
