dan d, sure was a big wow! James Cotton also sang "Fever" on his 100% Cotton album back in the 70's. Wow again!

One of the flat out sexiest songs, especially for the conservative 1950s. Looking up the lyrics just now, I'd remembered the reference to Pocahontas and John Smith, but I can't recall ever hearing the clever bit about Romeo and Juliet.
"Romeo loved Juliet
Juliet, she felt the same
When he put his arms around her
He said, "Julie, baby, you're my flame"
Thou giveth fever
When we kisseth, fever with thy flaming youth
Fever! I'm a fire, fever, yeah, I burn forsooth"

She smoked many cigarettes and in turn received her raspy singing voice.

I WONDERED WHAT HAPPENED TO PEGGY LEE. FEVER IS MY FAVORITE SONG . SHE SANG IT SO WELL WITH JUST THE RIGHT EMPHASIS.

7734usay,
thank you for sharing this information. Loved her and her singing but seemed like she just disappeared.

one of the best songs ever! Peggy Lee's performance was both powerful and understated. in the Netflix show, The Queens Gambit, the main actress lip succeeded and danced to this.

Player #7106191, In November, 1961, at New York's Basin Street, Lee collapsed on stage in mid-performance. Hospitalized with double pneumonia, she suffered permanent lung damage. She would go on performing and recording well into the 1990s, but some of her vitality was gone. My mom told me Peggy had an oxygen tank off-stage.
