There is a fantastic movie about the Yellowstone Caldera. It depicts how a super volcano may erupt and the probable results/damage.

The caldera of the Yellowstone supervolcano is 45 miles wide. When it blows (it's 40,000 years overdue), it will bury the US and half of Canada.

The majority of Yellowstone is located in Wyoming. A small part is in southwestern Montana. Only a tiny fraction is located in Idaho... so tiny they shouldn't even claim it. Haha.

HawaiianShirtGuy, Isle Royale is still a national park. You were thinking of Mackinac Island in Lake Huron. It was returned to the state and became Michigan’s first state park.

Little known fact. Isle Royale in Michigan was the 2nd National Park. It was later given to the state and is no longer part of the national system.

Player #2888081, are you sure it happened at Yelloestone? I remember reading a true crime, where an incident like that happened at Yosemite. Maybe. I'm wrong but I don't think so. Man who worked at park, killed a woman, her daughter and her daughter's friend. He worked at a lodge, near the park entrance. He was found and convicted.

tystyx, yes, it could erupt someday, like May 1, 2019, or 16 milion years in the future.

tystyx, if it blows its top, and it will, that's extinction for 90% of all life, plant and animal. Debris cloud will encompass the earth preventing the sun from penetrating. Wonder which will wipe us out, within or without, that is, it or meteor crashing like the one that wiped out the dinosaurs.

Yellowstone is so nice outta the way of everything though camping was a bit uncomfortable cause it was cold and the ground underneath was rocky. And I did not enjoy hearing the screaming elks. They spooked me a bit.
