Raised in Iowa mom said if those kadydids stop singing you get in the cellar and it happened not long after she said that, that a storm rolled in and they stopped singing we ran for the cellar and the tornado just missed us. Back in 1965 no where near a town you watched the wildlife

Did you know: Tettigonia viridissima, the Great Green Bush-Cricket, is a large species of katydid or cricket belonging to the family Tettigoniidae, subfamily Tettigoniinae 😏😏😏

LadyC313
Ati, in Greek they’re called “tzitziki”. Loud af! 😆
Great company over a glass of wine and friends, trying to talk while these tzitzikis (actually cicades) try to be louder then us talking 😆

LadyC313
LillySparrow, lol 😂

LadyC313
Vern, I thought so too, but they differ. These look like a leaf and kinda “sing”.
Cicades are loud and also have wings to fly around! Also hard to spot in a tree, but leaves are harder to spot.
Also, in Greece every summer these cicades drive us nuts 😂 the louder we speak the louder they tsjirp. A “wheee wheee wheee wheee” sound.
But also, if cicades, like these leafys suddenly don’t make a sound, go inside! Storm is coming!
Happy to see someone that had the same thought as me!
You must have a great mind, for great minds think alike 😉

LadyC313
Bryan Angelo, lol! You made me laugh! Thanks

LadyC313
Player #29306140, that’s interesting! Good to know…
In Greece we have cicades, if they stop yelling, we also better seek shelter for a storm will come…
Have a nice day 😊

My teen son kept several as pets.

I've watched shows where they get "up close and personal" into every animal and insect's life on earth and in the waters of the planet. This is one of the insects that I thought highly of.

Bootsie
Katydids are also yummy chocolates (no insects in them)

Addam
masterridley,
yes and no I was up in the air between either a leaf or insects and of course after using the 50/50 option I get the same answer that I was trying to choose from but I did guess right

masterridley, No, the picture did not help me. I saw a plant and no insect. Funny thing is it sounds like an insect that has been attacking citrus trees. I must admit I am a little off tonight. I know I will bounce back though. I am “always learning”. Hats off to the developers of this game. I love this app a lot. God bless all!

TropicalRookie242
I learned about this in like the first grade. Amazing I never forgot it.

Nancy
Folklore said when you hear Katydids (northeast US) we were 6 weeks from our first frost.

Nancy
Simon, Katy didn’t! 😉

ccmomma
masterridley, I don't look at the picture, unless the question asks
