When was the first written description of a skunk?

Newt, I can’t see Delan 1947’s comment , but I took the first date after the Mayflower (1620) as most likely

and the only known animal that will eat them is the great horned owl...dead or alive

They look really cute they obviously smell bad though I would love to see one.
