Jazzyboo1117, It was believed that Jack the Ripper moved to USA. That is why the murders in England stopped.

I've found the Chicago's World Fair facinating since I was a kid. The book, Devil in the White City details both the fair & Holmes... definately a creepy man with weird contraptions inside his building.

He may be the first person identified as a serial killer but he definitely was not the first!

Micki
He probably wasn't actually the first, since the country had already been in existence around 100 years. He was probably just the first one who could be identified.

Brad Stopher
in 1895 (a year before H.H. Holmes' death) the house of horrors (also known as the murder castle) was destroyed by an unknown arsonist the only remains of that place that still exist today is the basement

Bvkfishin, ‘The Devil and the White City’ is an excellent book by Erik Larson. The book is very enlightening regarding the time period which was 1893 and the phenomenal ‘White City’ which was the Chicago World’s Fair. Yes, the serial killer is part of the story but there’s so much more to the story. All of Larson’s books are entertaining and a learning experience as well.

Mary
The American TV show "Timeless" devoted an episode to this serial killer.
