Uranus is named after the Greek god of the sky

hi this is the second time the name of Earth has come up as not being named after a god but it simply isnt true. In Greek mythology Gaia, translated into English as Earth, is a Goddess and the original Mother Earth. Please look it up

Noman
Tony, you’re absolutely right! They are the Greek gods in their Roman names.

CJ
I don't understand all the confusion over the question. Although there is the anomaly of Uranus all the other planets, apart from Earth, are named after Roman gods. Those people insisting they are named after Greek gods are presumably teaching their children that the planets in our solar system are: Hermes, Aphrodite, Earth, Ares, Zeus, Kronos, Uranus, Poseidon and Hades. If those aren't the correct names then they aren't named after Greek gods!

Valen
Mickey, the names of the planets are the Roman names of the gods.

The Vedas of Hindu culture mentioned about the entire solar system and space science much before Greek or Romans did. They not only mentioned about planets and solar system but also described about the movement of planets.

the planets are named after the Greek Gods, only their names in English are with their Roman name. there was no Cronus or Uranus in Roman mythology, for example. Jesus, If you want to make a question, at least do it right

PolishedCut
Tony, yes, but with different names so the question is perfectly OK

Moons used to be named after Greek mythological beings. Saturn moons branched into Norse & Irish mythology and Uranos' ones mostly have Shakespearean names.
