Player #185561, my mother was a RN for a convalescent hospital for 40 years. We would try to get her to work for one of the big hospitals, but she would always refuse. She would say that it was her calling, some nurses liked caring for newborns, my mother said geriatrics needed her. She cared for her patients like they were her own relatives. People to this day still say how wonderful my mother was with their father, mother or grandparents. I can’t understand being afraid of the elderly. That just seems sad 😞

I don't want to be dependant on others or put in a nursing home. I'd rather die before letting that happen. I've been inside a few abd didn't like what I saw! It was atrotious!

Player #185561, As I approach my 61st year my mind often stays young in spirit however, my body reminds me that I'm truly climbing the latter of the race to old age. Do I like it? No! but we who grow old may be the lucky ones. Some people die before they get old. We all start getting old the moment we are born.

we need to go back to being a society that respects and honors the elderly so when we ourselves grow old we won't fear it.

I used to be afraid of dying until life became so difficult, now I'm at peace with it and looking forward to spending my eternity with the Lord. It is hard getting older and feeling like people look at you as an old person and like you don't matter bc of it... like you're automatically dismissed as not worthy of importance.

Beverley Australia, I think the key is not having a lot of worry late in life. In the States the elderly are often saddled with debt and have very little social support. Getting old in some countries means being plunged into poverty and to be disregarded and isolated. Families no longer live in the same city or town and when the elderly can't afford to travel or are too disabled to travel they are completely cut off and forgotten. Getting old in America is a nightmare that usually ends in death in a nursing home without loved ones aa .

One thing I hate about aging is how people treat you. They don't show you the respect that you deserve. I'm in my 70s and people either tease me about how "cute" I am if I say or do certain things or call me sweetie. I was never called sweetie by strangers until this year. They may think I like it, but I don't.

I don't like getting older, but I don't feel as bad about it as when I was young. As a child, I dreaded it. As a young adult I had terrible problems with my back which were life changing, but as the years went by, and after already having had major operations that failed, I had one that made a big improvement. I've had a better quality of life since and appreciate that.

To Sandyberry, Cozzy 25, Yes, spending an eternity with the Lord is what I want too. But I’m still scared, even though I shouldn’t be. It’s being afraid of the unknown I think. I need prayer to allay these fears.
