I still cannot believe that Sissy lived with Loretta, on her plantation, for a year in preparation for the role. They are still, to this day, close.

Nobody deserved an Oscar more than Sissy Spacek. She captured Loretta Lynn to a "t", both in speech and singing. A tour-de-force performance.

I have always loved the film, as I am a coal miner's daughter and my 2 daughters are also. Of course my son is a coal miner's kid, and the same for his kids. I didn't know that Spacey sang the songs herself. All good info.

I am happy for the positive comments. I loved the movie, though till now I didn't remember it was Sissy Spacek who played Loretta. And she sang for real which is amazing. And she lived with Loretta for a year and they remain friends. Nice to know.

It’s heartbreaking that Loretta Lynn passed away last week, when I found out, I was shocked… and I’m very thankful that I got to see that movie before I became deaf, and now all I can hear is a loud roar in both my ears that’s every waking moment and a murmur of my own voice…
Majer

Sissy Spacek is one of the best actors ever! She is brilliant, classy, and has been true to each role she's played. I believe other actors could learn a lot from studying her films!!

I saw the movie when I was very young and it had a very powerful impact on my life. I was unaware that people lived like that. It seems like they were just above absolute poverty.

I live near where the movie was filmed in north east TN. The county made a park out of the location along the Holston River. The house and barn were burned down by arsonist a few years ago.
