In which year did New Mexico become a US state?

Love the Pueblo homes there.Some have no corners in them and the stairs,shelves built into the walls

WaldoLydeker, it was Spanish colonists who named the territory Nuevo Mexico more than 300 years before it became a US state.

Unimaginative naming of the state which probably riles our neighboring country since it was annexed after losing the war considering such cool place names there like Albuquerque, Alamogordo, Carrizozo. There's even a Las Vegas as well. Or using a Native American tribe like Mescalero, or simply "Apache". Wouldn't that be cool?

I live in new Mexico. the criminals get away with so much it isn't funny. theirs a judge in Albuquerque that lets every one walk including a man that may or may not have murdered a little girl.he needs to be impeached. I personally hate new Mexico because of the crime statics is so high and getting worse every day.
