ZyggyStardust, The Ottoman Empire did run a large slave trading operation. Certain African nations did collaborate with European slave traders in terms of providing the slaves for shipping. They did NOT run the trade.
As for the US stopping the trade, yes it eventually made the international trade illegal but it continued to operate an internal slave trade which didn't end until the Confederacy was finally defeated in the American Civil War.
