Who wrote the novel "The Old Man and the Sea"?

I visited his beautiful home while in The Keys. dew claw kittys were lounging inside as part of his estate.

10bwc, It is not a short story. It is a novel. The book is over 100 pages long; that is too long to be a short story. It is a short novel. Hemingway did not use many adjectives or adverbs. His sentences were to the point. His novels were not very long, compared to most novels.

penawareof, You don’t have to read the whole thing at once, but a good novel draws you into the story and keeps you interested in what comes next.

Anastasia, I had to read it in 9th grade English Literature class. We were each assigned a chapter and had to write a 500 word paper on it to summarize the chapter.

Andy Capp, I agree. As far as I am concerned, his only good trait is he liked cats and provided for them after his death. The cats' descendants have a permanent home in his Key West residence, now a museum.

At his home in Key West, the tour guide will tell you the story of when he was off covering the war, he had an affair. His wife back home found out about it and drained their bank account (about $20,000., a substantial amount back in the 1940's!), and replaced his boxing ring in the back yard with the largest swimming in the Keys. When he finally came home and saw what she had done, he was so angry, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a penny, threw it on the ground, and told her, "Well, since you've taken all of the money, you might as well take my last cent!". To this day, that very same penny is encased in glass in the same spot where he threw it!! I was there in April and saw it!!!

His house / museum is just a short walk from the Southernmost point of the USA. Loved The Keys.

Anastasia, LOL I know the feeling I loved the old man in the sea but I read it on my own we were forced to read Lord of The Flies hated every second of it to the point where I have never read the last chapter and I've read the book more than once I cannot bring myself to that last chapter because I dislike it so much
