Player #4250921, leeches are sometimes used to 'prevent' gangrene in skin grafts. New grafts may not have the blood vessels to drain blood leading to fresh blood being unable to get to cells. Leeches will ingest the trapped blood resolving the problem.
I had leech treatment for a nose graft after cancer treatment... a hideous experience.
