Davy, Livingston, from where did you get the "everywhere else" evidence? As far as I can determine it is only in the U.S. that there is any 'official' definition of the age of antique, and that is only derived from commercial sources not a legal definition. Even the Wikipedia article used for the question has indicated that the claim of 100 years has no citation.
