What is the purpose of the brushes installed on the sides of escalators?

toe jam, those are not always yellow. However, the patterns of the raised "bumps" aid a blind person as they "feel" the bumps with their cane

I usually use them to clean my shoes. It's fun!

what about those yellow bumps when you cross into the street..l think they're their to keep pedestrians from crossing into traffic too fast.

escalators can be dangerous. At Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, MD USA in the 1960s, there was a horrible escalator accident, resulting in injury and death to schoolchildren who were there to celebrate "Safety Patrol" day.
