I guessed meat shredder, oops! As a music teacher, I often used one with chalk to draw staves on the board. Also tried using the kind that draws 5 pen lines on paper, but it's very hard to apply the pressure evenly and get equally clear, dark lines. Anyway, this one didn't look like either device I'd used, so I missed it - but I learned something.

When we got punished with 'lines' at school, back in the day, we taped pencils together so we could write more than one at a time. However, teachers sussed the pattern, so we left a space between pens, and wrote in every other line. Kids always find a way!

Wonderful! Learning about the tools used in the history of music writing is awesome.

My music teacher back in high school had a version of that which would hold 5 pieces of chalk to draw the staff lines on the blackboard.
