When I lived in Massachusetts in the early 1960s, we would receive new license plates in envelopes to be put on our cars at the start of a new year.
One year I opened the package and there were 2 plates for my car, but they had 2 different numbers.
Figured it was the prisoners’ joke.
Had to go to the DMV and get new plates.
