MamaLuvzLexie, I agree. We have a great country in most ways, but charity should begin at home. We travel a lot, mostly country roads. We have seen many places in this country that are in such great need that we are saddened, especially when the very rich go to other places to donate their wealth. Publicity for themselves, not giving from their hearts.

Too bad she didn't touch bases with the young soprano, Amira Willighagen who has started her own charity and built 14 new plat grounds in poor schools so that the children have a place to play. Amira is 16 now but started the charity when she was 10 y.o. She donates half her fees to her charity and oversees the maintenance of the playgrounds herself.

quiltgirlgamer, It's not oly the rich who "donate" (aka tax write-off), the average American donates to projects abroad also. Not saying we, as a country should not help, but what you said is accurate, (IMHO), in the statement of "charity should begin at home". First fix us/ours so we can be better equipped to help fix them/theirs.
