I once had a Mexican guy trying to convince me their surname system is fantastic, because apparently the woman's surname always survives, unlike when you take your husband's/wife's name (they don't do that). But it makes no sense because you always end up taking the first of the two for a child, which means sure, it is the mother's fisrt surname, but it's not *her* mother's surname, it's the man's.
