Lived down there in the 60's and 70's. I don't know where the author got 1980 as it had that moniker way before that and the conventions took over the tri-state cities of Greensboro and Winston Salem as well. It's where singer Fantasia is from too.

They might make that claim, but it isn't true. China produces the most furniture of any country in the world. Many of the furniture companies in the US have gone out of business. Personally, I think Americans should buy less things from China. The last furniture I bought was made in the US!

I live in Michigan and there is quite a history of Grand Rapids as the producer of furniture. Surprised and wonder what happened to that historically. In one of the museums, there is a huge mural of a picture of logs clogging the Grand River, waiting to be produced into furniture. Steel Case was also a huge manufacturer of furniture, but metal.
