The big dog in the picture is what type of breed?
Correct answer: Tibetan Mastiff
Player Say what!?
Awesome dog that definitely shouldn't live in warm climates.

My daughter wants one but will wait until she can provide an appropriate home. She thinks it might not do well in a one bedroom apartment. 🤣
Tamara
I thought it was a lion there for a second
NLadybug
It is true that they do not like strangers. Many Tibetans keep them as guard dogs and they can be pretty mean!
Sharon
I believe 1 of them holds the record for the most expensive dog ever. can't recall exactly but it was ridiculously expensive. Especially when, partly due to their size, they tragically only live a few short years.

PhoenixGriffin911, I think a one-bedroom apartment might not do well around a Tibetan Mastiff.

ever wondered about the expression 'Eaten out of house and home' well here's the beast quite capable of it.?lol...

PhoenixGriffin911, She is very correct. These dogs cannot tolerate being "put away" . This breed would be a disaster in an apartment. They are very intelligent and stubborn

Tamara, my thoughts exactly lol

What a beautiful dog - lovely to cwtch up to. I would say he is much heavier than a 100 lbs - more like 300 lbs 😊

I think they were bred to chase off tigers!
Smokitopaz56
a coworker got one as a puppy. she crated it, then eventually closed it in the bedroom while she went to work. she went home to a bedroom missing drywall around the door, the door trim torn off..... doggo was pored and wanted out. I think I'll stick with English Mastiffs lol.
Gary
Sharon , AT 343 pounds a Mastiff has the record for being the heaviest dog
Jill
PhoenixGriffin911, No, she's right! She'd be out at parks & woods all day/night long...food?? ouch!

The breed is so ancient, and Tibet has always been so isolated, that it's impossible to say how or when TM's came to be. We know that for millennia they were the mighty guardians of the Himalayas, and it's thought that they're the progenitor of all modern mastiffs. Evidence suggests that early travelers to Tibet were sometimes given these giants as gifts, which were used to create the mastiff breeds of the Middle East and Europe.
Tibetans believe that Tm's have the souls of monks and nuns who were not good enough to be reincarnated into people or into Shambhala.
They blow their coat and need regular grooming. Most females only come into season once a year, unlike most breeds that have 2 seasons a year.
