Chaplain died 25th December 1977, so 1975 wasn't "several years before his death".

That Cøunt, Ray Bumpkin, purportedly 1917 not 1977. Mary Pickford recounted the “Perfect Story” which spread throughout the English press. Chaplin later debunked the story as untrue in an interview with Richard Meryman. “I certainly didn’t want to do that”.

They state the look alike competition took place in 1975, then say it was " several years before his death" . One of those two parts are incorrect. Charlie Chaplin B 1889 and died on 25 Dec 1977 aged 88. So Chaplin died only about 2/3 years at the most depending on what time year the competition happen. With any stretch of the imagination that is no way several years before his death.
