The Indonesian government was encouraged to commit these reprehensible actions by lack of world objection to their annexation of West Papua in 1969, and the internal conflict against their usurpation there still continues today . Australia was appreciated in Timor-Leste until it emerged that they had tried to diddle them out of mineral rights but I believe that faux pas may now be resolved probably at a fair bit of expense to the Australian Govt, we the taxpayers, having never really been informed of the resolution.
