Wow. Hard to number the ways in which this is wrong. Hogmanay is 31st December, New Year's Eve. That is all. New Year's Day is another day. Hogmanay celebrations are traditionally held in the hours up to "the bells". After that it's Happy New Year and all that. Yes there are extended holidays because New Year in Scotland is a traditional time for family and friends, for "first footing" your neighbours.

AliTob, The extended holidays are also due to the fact that celebrating Xmas was banned in Scotland for nearly 400 years so the New Year became Scotlands Xmas. Dec 25th didnt become a bank holiday up here until the late fifties. When I was young we used to go up to visit all my dads family at Hogmanay and I remember the parties that were held every night over a week. Fun times, especially when it snowed.😁

Hogmanay is celebrated on the 31st of December. First footing is traditionally done by a tall, dark and handsome person and they bring gifts of coal and salt, wishing you warmth and tasty food.

AliTob, I thought it was true as it’s well known that the Scots like a drink or twenty and they needed longer to sober upπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. The few Scots I know are like that.
