It is still used in the processing of sheep skin. You can watch them doing it in Marrakech. They will hand you sprigs of mint to sniff on because of the smells.

TRUE CANADIAN Laurel, I agree with this. I am Italian and live in Italy. This is the first time hearing this and asked many people who also agreed it was not a Roman use. Read many Roman history books etc and this was never mentioned or recorded.
