First I've ever heard of this and not only am I Scottish but I work in researching Scottish local and family history and previously taught Scottish history. I have family on the west and east coast where the dialects are different to the point that different words are used for naming objects and people but still I have never heard of this expression. I'm going to have to have a wee look in oor Scots dictionary at work tomorrow.

Interesting how many comments from Scottish folks have never heard of this term. One of those words that could easily be misinterpreted, as in "oh no, I just tartled"!

Hettums, I spent 4 days (not nearly long enough) in Scotland and fell in love with their accents. Thank you for giving me a wee bit of nostalgia! ♥️

Just so happens I experienced this at the dog park today. Instead of apologizing for not remembering their names I could have exclaimed, "gee, I'm tartled!"
