Which way is the correct way to pronounce "meme"?
Correct answer: Meem

I have a friend who says mee-mee and it drives me nuts! Does no good to correct her.

I find it difficult to correct another adult's speech, no matter how annoying their mistakes. Years ago, I bought a new Stephen King non-fiction book called "Danse Macabre." No matter how many times I pointedly said the title of the book, this woman I knew insisted on calling it, "Dance McCabe." It drove me nuts. People in the South say "ideal" when they mean "idea," and they pronounce the "L" in "salmon." My cousin says "ignernt" instead of "ignorant." I tangle up the word "statistic." I guess it's true: it's always something!

RocketBunny, That like when people say, "For reals." I understand young people making language their own (my generation did it a lot--groovy, far-out, spacey days doing doobies with my old man, etc.), but today's kids are jelly when you go with your BFF for 'za. Not saying the whole word is not creative, it's just lazy.

Sally C, seems like it should be because isn't it what it's all about?

Lionessa, I know some folks who use the word “MINES” incorrectly! They’ll pick an item and say, “This one is MINES!” Drives me crazy!!

Grumpy Cat is my personal hero. Love that cat and her testy expression and attitudes.

But still don't know what it actually means or why people use it.

Lionessa, IDKY, but I enjoy saying spoom rather than spoon. LOL
