I remember reading WWII theme comics where they used the old one, e.g. [D]og & [E]asy. On "Dragnet" & "Adam 12" they used what I assume was/is the LAPD one that included, IIRC, [A]dam, [O]cean, & [N]ora? They may have switched to the NATO version by now.

Ewa, per NATO dot int: Most of it came from the International Air Transport Association & was adopted by NATO with a few mutually agreed on changes. Prior to that, the US & UK had their own phonetic alphabet.
