The definition of a pint differs in Imperial measures versus American measures. The Imperial point is 20 fluid ounces, the American is only 16. Both gallons are 8 pints but therefore Imperial is 160 floz whilst American is only 128 floz. oh wait, Imperial fluid ounce is 28.413ml but American is 29.574. Confused?

That would be American cups, 2 cups in Australia and NZ add up to 500ml. A pint is 600ml.

I cannot understand American recipes. What with cups of this or that. And what on earth is a 'stick' of butter?

Patricia, I’ve got cups for any US recipes I come across but I’m with you on the “stick” of butter. Vague! I’ve just looked it up. 4 ounces.

UK recipes don't use cups as a measure. We would say half a pint.
