Sharla, Once the caterpillar s spin their cocoons ,they are gathered up and put into hot but not boiling water,.This kills the caterpillar and loosens the filaments of the cocoon. The cocoon s are then literally unwound and this provides the yarn to be woven into silken material.

I was always curious how anyone found and figured out that the silkworm made the basic substance for making silk.
And still more curious how they figured out how to take the substance and make it into silk. Perhaps someone in this app will create a question about how silk is actually made. I would enjoy reading about it.

🤣 One of the options is "slime"... I'm still laughing. For some reason I find it funnier than "plastic" one

Still have a problem wrapping my head around how many worms it takes to produce enough silk just to make one garment.

That question was so easy because the worm is called silk worm
