I think the NSW Tassie Devils are still a captive breeding group that are free from the fatal mouth tumours that have infected most of Tasmania's population, the plan being that once the disease is controlled in Tasmania, they will be re introduced there. They definitely won't be let free on the mainland unless they can be trained to leave other wildlife alone and only hunt rabbits and cats.
