How many symphonies did Beethoven write?

Of all the classical music that we know, my husband's favourite is Beethoven's 6th, and mine, his 9th! When my husband was in traction, he used to visualise to this piece of music, and was able to leave the pain in his body behind!

When Beethoven led the orchestra (with his back to the audience) to play the 9th Symphony for the first time in public, when the orchestra was finished, the audience erupted into cheers and clapping. Beethoven was then sufficiently deaf and he could not hear the thunderous applause, whereby one of the violinists left his seat, went to Beethoven and turned him around so that he could actually see the enthusiastic response to his symphony!

I remembered a question yesterday about the 7th symphony curse and quickly hit 7 thinking I was so clever! But I know his 9th symphony!! 😡
