The nemesis of the lion is the spotted hyena. Both animals are apex predators, but hyenas exhibit strong scavenging behavior, and often try to steal the fresh kill of the lionesses of the pride. They harass female lions, but they fear the big males. When a male lion is fully mature, his mane comes down his chest and goes under his front legs, making running difficult. Nevertheless, I once saw video of a mature male lion chasing down a hyena. The chase was fierce, and twice the hyena thought the lion was giving up, but he didn't. I've never seen a male run that fast or that far. He finally caught the hyena, and instead of just injuring her and leaving, he killed her. Then he walked back to the pride. A lion would never eat a hyena. Hyenas eat everything: guts, hooves, tails, faces, and everything else. No other animal will eat a hyena.

The lion's favourite food includes zebra and wildebeest.
