There is much confusion about "its" and "it's.
Here's an easy way to remember which one to use:
"It's" always means "it is".
"Its" - without the apostrophe, shows possession, as in, "the dog slept in its bed".

This has since been debunked. See "Icons of Evolution" by Jonathan Wells. Eohippus was found to be unrelated to horses and has subsequently been renamed Hyracotherium.
